New, free courses for PAs at our Care Academy

Care Academy

Care Academy training for individual employers and Personal Assistants (PAs)

Free training for disabled people employing a personal assistant and their personal assistants (PAs).

  • New for 2019 – Self help via online learning plus new employer and PA induction training.
  • The dates and times for the workshops this Autumn have just been released, please scroll further down this page.

For many people, using their direct payments to employ a personal assistant in care is a very good option. It allows you to be in control of who helps you in your daily life and your care. This means, however, that you become an employer, which involves a certain amount of knowledge.

At The Disability Resource Centre, we can help you through this process. Our induction courses will teach you how to look after your employees and meet regulations.

In addition, we provide training to enhance the skills of your personal assistant, with general and bespoke training courses, all meeting the standards of the Care Certificate, as well as training in specific health conditions.

To achieve the care certificate qualification all our workshop attendees will need to arrange an assessment in their place of work, by their employer.

  • This free training is available for disabled people employing a personal assistant and their personal assistants.

  • If you are a newly-employed, or existing personal assistant, we will help you improve your skills in a way that is specific to your role.

  • Our courses are also available to external agencies. Please contact us for prices.

The Care Certificate is aimed at health and social care workers, both those already in employment, and those starting a new job. By attending the following workshops marked by an asterisk (*), you could complete all the knowledge based elements of the Care Certificate.

All workshops take place at The Disability Resource Centre, Poynters House, Poynters Road, Dunstable, LU5 4TP.
