Free training workshops for Personal Assistants (PAs) in care and their Individual Employers
Workshops are also available free of charge to unpaid carers and aspiring PA’s.
Our workshops are free for any PA who is directly employed by an Individual Employer in receipt of a direct payment, an unpaid carer or someone aspiring to work in this role. Any Individual Employer in receipt of a direct payment is also eligible to access the training free of charge.
A PA employed by an organisation or agency will be subject to course fees.

Mental Health Awareness*
This introductory workshop will give you the knowledge to understand the needs and experiences of people with mental health conditions. You’ll understand the importance of promoting positive health and wellbeing and explore any required adjustments.
You will gain an understanding of the needs and experiences of people with dementia. You’ll understand the importance of promoting positive health and wellbeing and explore any required adjustments.
Emergency First Aid*
Our accredited First Aid course will give you practical basic life support training that meets the UK Resuscitation Council guidelines.
Health and safety*
Understand your responsibilities relating to health and safety in a work setting. You’ll learn about policies and procedures, accidents and illness, risk assessments, moving and assisting safely, medication, hazardous substances, fire safety and stress.
You’ll gain an understanding to be able to describe the agreed ways of working and legislation regarding the recording, storing and sharing of information.
Gain an understanding of the principles of safeguarding adults. You’ll also explore how to reduce the likelihood of abuse and respond to suspected or disclosed abuse.
This workshop will raise your awareness of and provide a definition of epilepsy is. You will learn how to identify the different types of epilepsy and understanding the potential triggers.
Emotional freedom technique and Covid-19
Learn how to use tapping (EFT) to reduce stress and anxiety about Covid-19. This 90-minute workshop will teach you what you need to know about tapping and how you can use it in your everyday life, promoting emotional health.
Learning Disabilities Awareness
Understand the needs and experiences of people with learning disabilities. You’ll also learn the importance of promoting positive health and wellbeing, understanding adjustments in care delivery, early detection of learning disabilities and much more.
Come and learn about the autism spectrum and how autism affects a person’s social and functional interaction. Gain an insight into the possible causes of autism and how to work with the different symptoms of autism.
This introductory awareness workshop is aimed at people who work with individuals who may be deaf or may have a learning disability. It will give suggestions, hints and tips and coping strategies. It will provide awareness around what it is like to be hard of hearing.
Infection, prevention and control*
We’ll explore the main ways an infection can enter the body and discuss effective hygiene. We’ll look at common types of personal protective clothing, equipment and procedures. You will be able to explain the principles of safe handling of linen and clinical waste.
Direct Payment Awareness
This workshop will give you the knowledge and understanding on what a direct payment is, why they exist and their background. You’ll explore what a direct payment can be used for, the process for applying for a direct payment and other useful information around direct payments.
Understand your role*
This module will support you to understand your role within the health and social care sector. You will provide evidence of understanding your role and work in ways that have been agreed with your employer. You will also understand working relationships including working in partnership with others.
Your personal development*
An interactive workshop designed to support you to develop a personal development plan and to develop your personal knowledge, skills and understanding of continuing professional development.
Duty of Care*
Come and learn how duty of care contributes to safe practice. Understand the support available for addressing dilemmas that may arise, how to deal with comments and complaints and dealing with incidents, errors and near misses.
Equality and Diversity*
This workshop will give you an understanding of the importance of equality and inclusion and how to work in an inclusive way.
Moving and Handling

A practical workshop that will give demonstrations and opportunities to use different pieces of equipment (slide sheets, handling belts, rota stand, transfer boards, slings and hoists). You will also gain an understanding of moving and handling through discussions around related theories.
Introduction to Emotional Wellbeing
Online learning only – Read all about this free online course
This online course will define what is meant by emotional wellbeing and why it’s important to focus and invest in it. You’ll explore how to take better care of yourself and will create your own emotional wellbeing action plan.
Online learning only
Learn about Direct Payments and the role of a PA. This course will introduce you to what a PA does, a summary of the role and skills and values. You will gain an understanding of policies and procedures relating to this role including safeguarding and handling information. Finally, you will explore timesheets, holiday and sickness.
Working as a PA
1-2-1 appointments only (by phone or online video chat)
You will have access to the PA induction online learning course to take you through the role of a PA. In addition to this we are offering you the opportunity to book an appointment with our Training Officer to explore if this is the right role for you.
You will have the opportunity to join our employment support programmes focused on working as a PA and discussing your wider training requirements. This may include a wide range of topics including understanding of policies including safeguarding and handling information.
