Emergency help during the severe weather

Central Bedfordshire Council has provided a useful guide to emergency support and phone numbers if you need them during the severe weather.

The advice from the Central Bedfordshire Council website includes:

Power cuts

Get regular updates and information about individual power cuts on the UK Power Networks website.

Anyone experiencing a power cut should:

  • Visit www.ukpowernetworks.co.uk/powercut and type in their postcode to view a live power cut map, with details of individual power cuts
  • Call 105 free of charge to speak to Power Network’s customer service team, report a power cut or damage to the electricity network
  • Tweet @UKPowerNetworks to report a power cut or to receive updates

Stay clear of power lines and report damaged power lines immediately by calling 105 free from either a landline or a mobile phone. If you see electricity lines that are down or causing significant risk to the public, call 999.

Gas leaks

To report a gas or carbon monoxide emergency, or if a pipeline is struck (even if no gas leak has occurred) call 0800 111 999 – 24 hours a day.

Reporting highways problems

If you see an emergency on the highways, such as a fallen tree, please call our 24-hour emergency team on 0300 300 8049. Use Fix My Street to report non-emergencies.

Contacting Health and Social Care in an emergency

If your enquiry is urgent please call us on 0300 300 8303 (Monday to Thursday from 8:30am to 5:30pm and Friday 8:30am to 4:30pm). Outside of these hours, please call the Emergency Duty Team on 0300 300 8123.
