Our spring term at the Care Academy sees the return of some of our most popular courses
Join us for free training workshops for Personal Assistants in Care this March covering diabetes awareness and first aid.
Training is free and fully funded by Skills for Care for:
- Personal Assistants (PAs) already employed by someone to provide their care, will be able to develop their existing care skills and work through the workshops that underpin the knowledge of the Care Certificate
- People who want to become a Personal Assistant and find paid work from our current job listings
- Someone who hire’s a Personal Assistant for their care. Learn about the role and responsibilities of a Personal Assistant, how they can support your needs, and what it means to be an employer
Tuesday 25th March, 10am to 4pm:
Emergency First Aid at work
Level 3 (certificate provided, valid for 3 years)
This is a face-to-face 6 hour session.
Delegates will attain knowledge and the practical competence, required to deal with a range of workplace first aid situations.
Subjects include:
- Resuscitation and the use of a defibrillator
- Minor injuries
- Bleeding
- Burns
- Shock
- Choking
- Epilepsy
Tuesday 1st April, 10 am to 4pm:
Diabetes Awareness Level 2 (certificate provided)
This can be carried-out face-to-face or online in your own time.
Delegates will attain knowledge and the practical competence required to deal with a range of diabetes related situations.
The workshop/online course provides:
1. Understanding Diabetes:
– Define diabetes, its types, and identify signs and symptoms of hypoglycaemia and hyperglycaemia.
– 5 Ts of diabetes
2. Prevention and Early Intervention of Type 2 Diabetes:
– Recognise risk factors for Type 2 diabetes.
– What is the difference between type 1 diabetes and type 2
3. Initial Care of Diabetes:
– Provide health and foot care and identify high-risk conditions
4. Treatment and Management of Diabetes
– Administer medication, implement diet plans, maintain care plans, ensure secure record-keeping, and handle infected waste safely.
5. Maintaining Privacy and Dignity
– Identify situations compromising privacy and dignity and describe methods to maintain them in the work setting.

Free training to learn about and develop the skills of a Personal Assistant within care

The Disability Resource Centre’s Care Academy
Since 2017, the Care Academy has helped many people improve their skills and knowledge of the care sector and raise the overall level of service provided. The Care Academy also helps improve the relationship and understanding between the Personal Assistant (PA) and the person they care for.
Training is available for:

We run our workshops based on the Care Certificate modules by Skills for Care.
Our workshops started from Tuesday 8th October 2024 at Marsh Farm, Futures House, LU3 3QB and online. We also provide online training for you to learn at your own pace, in your own time. Please complete the form at the bottom of the page to sign up and we will enroll you onto the courses.
The Disability Resource Centre is a registered charity that has disabled people at the centre of its decision making. They provide advice + free skills workshops and online courses + Direct Payments + support for carers + free support for your mental health and overall wellbeing.
The charity team works with local communities to support anyone with a disability or health condition in Milton Keynes, Luton and across Bedfordshire. They are here so that disabled people and their families have somewhere to turn if they need help in any situation.
